At the start of this blog i mentioned that i have been booking a lot of retouching work. I figured I'd share some of the assignments I've been getting.
I do wanna mention that when you are a young artist surviving by your own means, headshots can become really expensive, especially when considering a reshoot because of wrong outfit choices. This is why its important to really plan ahead, and quite simply why headshot common sense indicates you go with simple wardrobe options.
-Your clothes should be comfortable and casual. They should not draw attention away from the face. The "rules" do try and state that one should avoid solid black, solid white, loud patterns, or anything overly concealing (i.e turtlenecks).
Dru, a girl I work with, was a bit concerned with her recent headshots (which were shot by someone else). She was regretting her outfit choice.
Dru had on a beautiful dress with flower decal that gave one of the straps some texture. She was also wearing a nice diamond necklace. It was a bit distracting and not very timeless. She came to me to get help. She wanted me to try and salvage the photo by minimizing the distraction of the dress and necklace. She also wanted it cropped a little closer to make her face the focus of the photo. I cleaned up her skin and enhanced the colors as well.
THIS IS WHAT WE GOT!
As you can see i've taken away the entire flower strap and gotten rid of the necklace. It makes for a cleaner photo that highlights her facial features more than her outfit.
Hope you guys enjoyed this little post!
A little later on I will be posting freelance retouching work I do for other fellow photographers, as well as my own before and afters from my own shoots so you guys can enjoy the visual enhancements. I know i like it.
