Now in its third year of celebration, West Hollywood's Own Pacific Design Center was the scene for this year's Friend Movement 'Stardust Soiree' Gala. All the honorees and guests convened inside of Industry Gallery to recognize the hard work and dedication set forth by the friend family, and to continue to celebrate and spread the word about friendship!
Friend Movement prides itself on the support it receives from artists and entrepreneurs who pay it forward while on the pursuit of their own goals and dreams! Many will proudly admit that, through friendship and the support shown by their peers, they were able to get to where they are now. One of those friends happens to be none other than Will Mochon, the recipient of the evening's coveted "Thank You For Being A Friend" Award. Dealing with the recent passing of his parents, Will reminds us how it is the friendship and love he is shown that keeps him going. He reciprocates that friendly embrace by giving back to his community. Mr. Mochon is active with GLSEN and Trevor Project where he helps people of all walks of life, young and old, deal with their struggles. He takes on so much and gives back so much despite his own personal becomings. Never complaining, and always embodying the true character of friendship in his work and life, it is no wonder Friend Movement picked him as the next in line for this honorable award! This evening's Soiree is dedicated to his parents who are "looking down at their boy, proud!" (-Eddie Lobo)
Guests were received with live music at this fashionable gathering. On the strings of the Harp was Leah Cecil Tibbitts. She was also Miss California 2012 and it's clear that her talent did not fall short of her beauty. Mixing up the musical line-up was Derek Jameson playing original acoustic versions of some of his songs. He was accompanied that evening by DJ Bateeza who he's actively collaborating creatively and performing with.
Ronnie and Eddie, the founders of Friend Movement, took the time to remind the gala's attendees why this movement is so important to them. Following the successes of their recent platforms, they wanted to use their popularity and fame to shed light and encourage a positive change on the negative and often overlooked effects of bullying. Brave enough to admit experiencing bullying firsthand, they know what its like to feel helpless and tortured by it. It has to stop! Ronnie urges you and me to look in the mirror everyday to give ourselves positive affirmations. It starts with being a friend to yourself first!
It is always such a pleasure bumping shoulders with great men and women at these sort of intimate gatherings. I'm always hoping a bit of awesome rubs off on me when I do! The rest of the evening was a hoot! Everyone eagerly checked their tickets when the raffle finally started for a chance to scream with excitement as they ran up to claim their prizes! They had Pump Restaurant VIP cards, Friend Movement shirts and original art, Bottles of Wine and Shakespeare Vodka, among others, ready to giveaway. It was particularly funny and endearing when the winner of one of the VIP Pump cards offered to pull a ticket himself to reassign the gift as he already had a VIP card. A true act of selfless friendship if I may!
“If we do not have the power to heal, we all have the power to help, to share and to love”. -Diabolo
Friends in attendance were encouraged to mingle and specifically share experiences or stories related to bullying. We as people often lead with a guard up or a wall when meeting someone new. Friend Movement believes that it's all about getting the conversation started. Its about letting your guard down, about being vulnerable. Only through such vulnerability can we find growth. Its ironic, but a very beautiful truth. The one thing these brave men and women have realized is that, through sharing their stories, not only do they often find healing for themselves, but along the way, end up helping someone else!
